Everyday Abundance: Summer Edition

orchards

Now that Labor Day is behind us and the kids are back in school, summer has unofficially ended.

So, how did you spend your summer? Did you get a chance to celebrate the sun and heat that summer brings?

Part of living an abundant life is appreciating and making the most of the small joys we experience everyday. These small things make up our lives, so we might as well revel in them.

Each day is a gift and a reason in and of itself to celebrate. You are alive. That’s plenty to be happy about. Read More

Anything is Possible: How You Can Stop Self-Limiting Beliefs and Behaviors

“Nothing is Impossible”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Take a few minutes to really think about it. What did you want to do for a living? Where did you want to live? What kind of people did you imagine yourself to be around?

I can answer these questions really easily. Up until about the 6th grade, I wanted to be an archaeologist. I was a really nerdy kid and I loved history. I could easily spend a whole day uninterrupted in my room studying ancient civilizations all around the world. I had even managed to teach myself Egyptian hieroglyphics because I wanted to figure out the engraved writings in the textbooks meant.  I wanted to travel the world and meet exciting people, doing fascinating work, and having plenty of adventures. I was really excited about the possibilities. Read More

The End of the Road?: How to know when to walk away

This poster hangs in my home office and serves as a constant reminder that each moment in my life is precious. And because each moment is precious, I try my best to only do the things that bring satisfaction, joy, and add to the fullness of my life. To do anything less, is to sell my self short.

At some point, each one of us thinks about walking away from something. Maybe a job. A partner. A friend. Maybe even an opportunity or a way of life. And we struggle with the decision because it’s hard to know if the benefits outweigh all of the problems and frustrations that make us want to leave in the first place. And sometimes, if we are really honest with ourselves, we know that the only thing that keeps us in situations that we’ve grown tired of is the fear of change and the unknown. But the truth is that, you will have to walk away from some things eventually because if you are committed to your growth and evolution, you will undoubtedly outgrow situations and people. Things that once felt good, will no longer serve your needs in the way they used to. And sometimes we cling so tightly to the idea of something that we deny the reality of what’s right in front of us staring us in the face. Knowing when to leave is never easy, but this is what I want to you to know: Getting the life you want takes effort and attention.  You must be dedicated to making that life happen and not sit idly by or stew in frustration when things happen in your life.  In other words, no more blaming your unhappiness on bad bosses, or bad relationships, or bad friendships that go on for years and years. Instead, work on getting the friends, the partner and employment that you want. Here’s what to do when you’re not sure whether you should walk away: Read More

What Beyonce Taught Me About Rejection

This is her performing at Stevie Wonder's tribute earlier this year. I was screaming so loud and dancing so hard, I know my neighbors thought I was crazy!
Queen Bey herself performing at Stevie Wonder’s tribute earlier this year. I was screaming so loud and dancing so hard, I know my neighbors thought I was crazy!

Sooo…. Everyone who knows me knows how much I loves me some Beyonce. Obviously she’s one of the most beautiful women in the world, and can sing her head off.  But I think I love  her so much because she’s so inspiring. I mean her work ethic is more than out of this world. I mean who can secretly record an album, secretly produce a short film for EVERY song on said album, and with no promotion or marketing release said album overnight and  then have that album debut at #1 and sell almost a million copies in 3 days? Beyonce. That’s who.  And its been amazing to watch her career and personal life evolve and grow over the past 20 years. Read More

Happy Mother’s Day

Scan 15
This is my favorite pic of my mom.

This is a short post. I just want to wish everyone a very happy Mother’s Day! I’m sending this message out to everyone, even those of us who are not mothers, because today is a chance for all of us to think about the wonderful impact that mothers have on our lives. Mothers are everywhere and we love them! Even the non human ones.

As most of you know, this is my first Mother’s Day after my mom passed last summer.  And it’s really hard. But I’ll get through it by focusing on how much her life has impacted mine and how appreciative I am that I’m here today because of her.  Also, my brother sent me the most adorable pics of my mother’s garden in her back yard. My mother’s garden was her pride and joy and its thriving even after she’s gone. Her influence is still visible and inspiring. What more could a daughter ask for? Read More

“The grass is greener” and other lies we tell ourselves

Grass-Is-Greener-Where-You-Water-It
Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Sometimes it seems as if everybody in the world, or at least those in our immediate circle, are doing so much better than us. These people seem to have fulfilling relationships, better jobs, well behaved attractive kids, more money, better looking bodies, etc. All you have to do is log into Facebook and be bombarded with everyone’s successes. And if not success, it certainly feels like everybody else is having so much more fun than we are. After viewing endless pics of new and/or seemingly wonderful relationships, posts about new jobs, and social events, it’s easy to log out feeling unhappy about your lot in life. Read More

It is what it is…. 3 Ways to learn Total Acceptance

I have a question for you: At this very moment, how do you feel about yourself and your life?

I bet you can list a million and one things about your life that you wish were different. Like many people you may wish that you had more money, or that you were in a meaningful relationship, or that you had a better job. You might even be wishing for a complete life overhaul because the state of things is so far away from where you imagine they should be.

A constant feeling of dissatisfaction develops when we are always focused on how we want things to be different. And sometimes this dissatisfaction grows into pain, anguish, anxiety, depression, and constant anger that we can’t ever seem to shake. Wallowing in dissatisfaction robs us of so much of our life energy. In other words, we spend so much time focused on what we think is wrong and lacking, that we can’t appreciate or even see clearly the things that are present and right. And sometimes concentrating on dissatisfaction can make problems and challenges seem bigger than what they are. Read More

I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRR!!!- How to acknowledge and use your own personal power

He-Man1

Does anybody else remember He-Man yelling at the top of his lungs that he had the POWERRRRR in every episode?

Or remember when this song was all over the airwaves?

Snap! – I’ve Got The Power from Sertaç Diler on Vimeo.

Well today I’d like to talk about how each of us could be a little more like He-Man and claim our personal power. But before we get started I’m going to tell you a few basic key things that I want you to know and remember:

  • You (yes you) possess a great deal of power.
  • Your power exists whether you acknowledge it or not.
  • You have the ability to harness and use your power.
  • You can use your power to create the type of life you imagine for yourself.
  • You can use your power to improve the overall quality of your life.
  • The way you use your power has an impact on others.

Well what exactly is power? Power is the ability to make things happen. Power is using your life energy to create things and experiences. Power is realizing your authority over your own life. Read More

Me Myself and I: How to be more Self-Aware

2012-08-06 13.47.13

What do you think other people see when they see you? Do they see the same thing you see when you look in the mirror?

  • Do you often find it hard to connect with other people especially in certain situations?
  • Do you feel like other people don’t really “get” you?
  • Or do you find yourself feeling like no one really knows the “real” you?

Well perhaps you, like all of us, can stand to become more self-aware. Self- Awareness is the process of knowing who we are in relation to other people. It’s helpful to be self aware because it gives us a framework to interpret and understand all the feedback we get from others.

Here are three ways you can increase your level of self-awareness:

1. Listen to what other people say about you Read More

Why don’t you get a hobby!

Though we all have different levels of obligations, we each have some degree of free time to manage. Sometimes we let our free time slip through our fingers without really noticing. We spend too many hours watching TV or on social media. We hang out with uninteresting people out of sheer boredom. We engage in unhealthy activity just to fill up the time.

But if we are bit more purposeful and intentional with our time, we can get much more out of it.  In a lot of ways, time is like money. We spend so much of our limited resources on obligations and frivolous things, but we should also remember to save and invest a little for ourselves. Read More
